Hello again Geniuses :)

This my first attempt at Imageshack.us. I have 2 pics there and would
appreciate if you could tell me whether this CD is usable for an
installation or just a recovery disk.

This should be the link:

My guess is that it is not a recovery disk but an installation disk to
'restore' the computer to the way it was when originally received by you
from the seller. That means none of the programs you installed would be
restored. However, if on the screens you get the option to do a 'Repair'
install you would maintain the programs that you had installed.

Did it come with a sticker or other device that looks something like this?

The *ABSOLUTE* must have...
"Product Key XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX"
(Xes are placeholders, must be 5 groups of 5 alphanumeric characters,
and each group is mixed letters and numbers)
***********************************************************************

Without this string, it's a recovery disk ONLY. With that string, it's a
*-possible-* generic install disk.

The reason I say *-possible-* ?

There is no industry-standard definition of "Recovery Disc". I have no
use history with Fujitsu-Siemons stuff. They may "Lock" theirs so that
it won't install unless it can see some code (usually in a BIOS
signature) that came from F-S.

I have often used Dell-branded OEM discs in the past as "generic", but
have found that those for their low-end (consumer low-end) models often
do have "locks". Their higher-level stuff (as in corporate
desktop/workstation models) have not had locks (so far).

Sorry to say but it is just a recovery or system restore disk. You need
to have the appropriate hardware as it will not do a "normal" install.
It will create on your harddisk a system exactly as it should be when it
came out of the Fujitsu factory. Since you don't have a Fujitsu
computer, it's bound to get a trifle confused and could you blame it?

Recovery disks are only for recovery.

Thanks to all for your comments. My instinct was that it was a Recovery
Disk and not for installation from scratch.
