XP & ADSL???

Almost as soon as I had upgraded to XP Home, I started
having trouble using the net. I would get flickering
lights on my 3Com Home Connect external modem. I use a
Linksys NIC card. After a couple of days of rough surfing
the redlight on the modem (center - ADSL) came on and I
could no longer access the internet. I can use dial up
but I want/need my ADSL back. My ISP is coming over on
Thurs. to c/o my system, is there any way XP changes the
settings so that the ADSL goes down? I get steady lights
on the LAN settings.

I dont know about your ADSL modem, but mine (a siemens xpresslink)
does not connect and gives a red light only when something is wrong with the
ISP.
Is your modem a USB or ETHERNET one?
If its an ethernet one (wich i think it is since you say you use a NIC card)
then
that means that the modem is still connected even if your computer is turned
off.
My modem has the green lights even if I shut down my computer.
This shows that there is a link between my modem and the ISP.

So I suspect the problem is not on your side.....buts its an ISP problem
they have to sort out

Thanks for the reply. My ISP shows up tomorrow (sometime
between 9 & 9). I was just worried that they guy would
show up and tell me it's my fault and I'd have to pay for
the service call. The line comes right from the wall and
into the modem, why would it go down? Oh, it's an
ethernet modem. I forgot how slow dial-up was. I've gone
back 4 years in time. I'll post the solution (hopefully).

Looks like it was a simple hardware problem with the
splitter in the phone line. Why didn't tech support
telll me that? I was told it didn't matter what kind of
splitter was used. It would have saved a visit.
