XP Activation Number

My PC recently crashed big style. I reformatted and
reinstalled XP from a friends CD as my PC came with XP
pre-installed.(no disk with it)
Now XP won't accept my seriel key for Windows.
I paid for it, have a receipt but it still won't work.
Any ideas?

Contact the manufacturer of your PC for support assistance.
Your PC's Windows XP Product Key will only work with
a restore method designed by the manufacturer. It will
not work using your friend's XP installation CD.
