Chuck,
you tried to help me once before with my XP/2k wirless network. We had to
abort because I wasn't the admin of the 2k machine (laptop) and so couldn't
follow your advice all the way.

I now want to delete 2k and reinstall Win98 on the laptop so I am the admin
(don't have the 2k discs). I heard that not all versions of Win98 are capable
of networking wirelessly. Is that correct? And if so, how can I find out
before deleting 2k and installing Win98?

Cheers
Sascha

Sascha,

If you MUST install Windows 98, try and use Windows 98SE. That's the version
with the best chance of being compatible with Windows XP.

Having said all of that, I have to advise you that installing Windows 98 simply
because you can't find the install disks for Windows 2000 is not a smart move.
Windows 9x is not an operating system that I recommend. You will find yourself
posting in microsoft.public.win98.networking for a lot of advice.

I was afraid of that. I managed to map the XP from the current win2k via IP
as posted elswhere in this forum, because I can't - like so many here - find
the XP machine in the workgroup. This works and since the 2k is really just
the client accessing shared content I think this solution works best. Until I
get a new laptop with XP that is. And then I might be back...

Thanks for your help as always Chuck,
Sascha

Thanks, Sascha. We'll be here if you come back.
