Why isn't Windows XP 64-bit being offered for people who
buy Athlon64 CPUs?
Because we have not released it yet.
Does it not work with them or what?
No - you require a 64-bit opertaing system that is specific to you CPU , so
we have Windows XP 64-bit Edition Version 2003 for Intel Itanium II CPUs, we
are currently still working on the 64-bit version for the AMD CPUs.
I'm not buying an Itanium, and I still need a 64-bit version
of Windows.
Do you have specific requirements for 64-bit computation and use of massive
applications ?
Being in mind that even when we do ship the AMD64 64-bit version of the
Windows XP operating system, what applications are you going to run in
native 64-bit mode ? running 32-bit applications on any 64-bit processor
always (regardless of the technologies used) yields a poorer performance
then running cleanly on a 32-bit CPU.
I am currently not aware of ANY applications that are ready to run natively
in 64-bits on AMD64.
Why did you buy an AMD64 powered machine ?
