Almost certainly you have the 32-bit edition. Almost anybody who
has to ask the question is running the 32-bit version. The 64-bit
version requires special hardware. It and the hardware have come
down in price, but are still substantially more expensive than
the standard consumer PCs you see around. Very few home users are
using it., and almost nobody would buy it without realizing it.
But if you want to check to be sure, enter WINVER at the Start |
Run line.
I was wondering how do you determine whether your xp is a 32 or 64 bit edition
-----------------------
Most windows is 32-bit edition
Itanium and Itanium 2 (EPIC) runs 64-bit Windows but Itaniums systems are very expensive and will not run regular consumer x86 software. There are some workstation but runs from $4,000+ before monitor is added
Athlon64 is x86-64bit. most of the systems loaded with 32-bit x86 version of Windows. If you have MSDN you download you can upgrade it to 64-bit beta version. Microsoft has slanted for mid-2004 release. Or you can get SuSE which is 64-bit now, RedHat should have one, several of the Linux Version are in testing phase or has release a 64-bit version of their operating system. Athlon64 systems start around $900 before monitor is added. I know some people that have bought the Athlon64 systems and use it as a Media Center to control everything dealing with media, excellent for video editing, super on gaming and programming
