XP 2002 Pro - Recycle Bin

I am running XP 2002 Pro on a hyperthread machine.

When I right click on the Recycle Bin and choose either
open or explore - up pops a window that shows the files
in teh Recycle Bin but they go away in 1 or 2 seconds and
I can never see them again.

Any ideas / help on how to see what is in the recycle bin?
