Hi,

I have several systems including 2 Win 2000 Pro, 1 XP Pro and 1 XP Home.
All are connected via a 100 MB switch.

The XP systems communicate well with each other, the 2000 systems
communicate well with each other. The XP systems communicate over the
Internet well also.

BUT, file transfers using explorer between the XP & 2000 systems do not
perform at all. A 1 MB file will take many minutes to transfer!

Anyone have a suggestion as to what's wrong and how I can fix it?

Thanks,

Adrian

Thanks for your information and reply.

I tested all your recommendations and downloaded the latest driver from
Broadcom, unfortunately it didn't help. My switch doesn't allow me to see
the actual port configuration, but I did try plugging it in to my second hub
(also 100 MB Switch) and this did not cause any change.

I have eliminated my 2000 server as being the source of the problem though.
After retesting with my XP Home machines, I found that they were
communicating properly with all other machines, except this one.

So basically I have an XP Pro with Broadcom adapter that has bad network
performance. Transferring the XP service pack between my other computers
takes about 20 seconds, while to or from this machine it takes about 6 mins.

Any other suggestions out there would be warmly welcomed.

Regards,

A.

I had that problem, and found purchasing a new switch was the answer. The Dlink switch needed restarting after approx an hour each day too, so that was pretty odd. Try a different brand of switch or router and see if you have better performance.

Hi everyone i have a win2k3 server and 30 xp pro clients that are all experiencing slow uploads to the server via a mapped drive. I tried the knowledge bas article 321169 and it helped dramatically
Thanks for the Knowledge base article it allowed the file transfers to go alot faster but not as fast as copying the file to the UNC path to the share. I noticed there was a difference between copying to a mapped drive and copying via the UNC path to the share. The UNC way went tremendously quicker than to the mapped drive before i added the reg entry to my server.
Still seems to be strange - Also does anyone know if this only affects Domain controllers?
