You could always try SP2 again. Add/Remove programs and remove SP2 and
try it again. Or not.

Running these 3 commands has helped me:

1. net.exe stop wuauserv
2. regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll wups.dll wuaueng.dll wucltui.dll MSXML3.dll
softpub.dll wintrust.dll initpki.dll dssenh.dll rsaenh.dll gpkcsp.dll
sccbase.dll slbcsp.dll cryptdlg.dll
3. net.exe start wuauserv

Click start, run and then paste these three commands (without the
numbers in front) into the box one at a time and click ok.

Good luck
