2006.06.28:

o Some binaries posters place 1st part of the file as followup to the text
file,
and subsequent parts as followups to the 1st part. This throws off Xnews
and
causes it to thread the multiparts incorrectly.
o some other things I forgot.

The above version is 5.04.25, file date 4/25/02

I have been using the "latest" which is 3.14.6, file date 3/14/06

What's going on?

Advice?

Ignore the word "TEST" -- it's, well, a tradition.

That Shark has a page about
this, <http://www.blinkynet.net/comp/xnewsrels.html>.

Yeah, I forgot. Thanks for the reminder.

OT: Problem w/ the latest: Followup / Post (and others?) windows
default to open maximized. No solution on n.s.r, so far. :(

I just repeated what I did 3 weeks ago, got it through the Blinky site to
the Xnews site, just now, it is 5.04.25, file date is 4/25/02, not
6/28/06.

Clicking the TEST link in the upper left corner of the Xnews site will
take you to it.

Thanks, Q
That cleared it up, now I have "2006.05.28"
About a year ago, Blinky in a snotty response said ver. 5.04.25 didn't
exist, I've been using it.

But as this thread indicates, 2006.05.28 is the only one to use.

I still can't get Find to work, did look in the words in Sec. 3 of the
manual. I will do a little more thrashing in past notes to see if I can
succeed. Other than that, I find Xnews is a pleasure to use, has a clean
interface that I like.

Yes, I waited to see your reply, so had looked at the
thread in 3.14.06, but when I tried to also open 5.28.06,
it would not run. Xnews only permits one instance?

I'm now using 5.28.06 and so will remove the other
versions.

I guess ver. 5.04.25 was an idependent upgrade, a one-of
kind?

Mike Sa

There are no 'independent' upgrades.
One program, one owner, one programmer, great guy overall.

To run multiple instances of XAdd
/m to the command line.

NB: I did not try this.

Ver 5.04.25 was advertised on ACF as an "upgrade" about a year or more
ago. The site said he was not Luu but had put in several improvements.
I've been using it.

That's why I asked about it now. Hope that Q will see this.

Said who was not Luu? Luu's the only author of Xnews, and 5.04.25 is
over three years old.

I did see it, but I'm not sure what the confusion is. 5.04.25 is just
the last version he packaged along with all the other necessary files.
For subsequent releases, he's only zipped up the executable.

In the above, maybe a senior moment for me, so 5.04.25 is basically an
older version. There is a lot of old help data, from David Beach, Sizer
and Polar Bear that I have to go through.

Has anyone recently put up a website for basic Xnews setup better than
the ones I mentioned?

Not that I know of. Polar Bear's and Sizer's focus on binaries, and I
don't think Sizer's can be beat. DavidB's is the best one I know of
for general setup.
