XLXP okay with XL2000 Personal.xls and .xlb?

My company is going to begin upgrading all our computers from Windows 2000
and Office 2000 to Windows and Office XP. Is my Personal.xls, with over 60
macro modules, and my Excel10.xlb with toolbars going to transfer okay to
XP? Or would you see some rough waters ahead?

For Personal.xls I think there's no problem, also because you can save your
2000 personal.xls with another name and then copy your macros in your XP
personal.xls. I don't know what can happen using 2000 .xlb with Excel XP.
Maybe you can ask to your company's IT guys...

Asking my company's IT dept. for anything other than "I think I have a
virus - can you wipe my computer?" is asking for either confusion or
trouble! The last time they did an update, they wiped out an entire suite
of macro programming, and had *NO CLUE* how to integrate fixes! They know
how to install an image on your hard drive and reinstall a program - they do
NOT know how to resolve any problem - especially ones they create
themselves! At least, that's my opinion.

If you are running XL 2000 your XLB file will be Excel9.xlb. Make a copy of
it and rename to Excel10.xlb

When you have XL2002(XP) up and running, find the Excel10.xlb and replace it
with your renamed Excel9.xlb file.

My username8.xlb made the transfer from 97 to 2002.

There are a few new menu items in XL2002 you will have to manually add to the
menus and Toolbars through Tools>Customize.

I've never had trouble for my personal.xl* workbook between xl97, xl2k, xl2002,
xl2003. But most of it was developed in xl97--and there's nothing in it that
uses any of the newer stuff that was added in later versions (well, without
checking first).

But for the *.xlb file, I'd recommend that you make notes of the icons you
want. Then when you get the newer version of excel, you recreate the toolbar
the way you want.

By doing this, you'll have to go into tools|customize and you may even find
stuff that was added in xl2002 that turns out to be useful. (And at the same
time, you can ignore the icons that you haven't clicked on in centuries!)

But after you're done recreating this toolbar, make a backup of it and store it
in a nice location. (You never know when you're going to destroy it in error.
And copy|Pasting is much easier than recreating.)
