Saving .xlb file?

I copied my .xlb file from one computer to another from a CD. Apparently,
that made the file read-only. I keep trying to modify the toolbars on the
second computer, but the changes never stick. And I can't open the .xlb
file -any time I try, it just opens Personal.xls. How would I change the
..xlb from read-only so I can save it with my changes?

I like to find where excel stores the toolbar file before I put the transfered
version there.

I'd start excel and then tools|customize
create a new (dummy) toolbar. Add an icon to it.

Now close excel and then use windows start|search to find that new *.xlb file.

If you find more than one, look the date/times and delete them all (or move them
somewhere else). But keep track of the folder that held the current *.xlb file.

Then copy that *.xlb from the CD to that location using windows explorer.

Right click on it and choose properties. Make sure it's not marked ReadOnly.

Then start up excel and see if it worked.

This technique works ok if you're staying with in the same version of excel--but
if you're upgrading, I'd make a note of the icons I liked and rebuild it from
scratch.

Thanks, Dave. I know I've got it in the right folder, because all my
toolbars show up. I hadn't remembered about unchecking Read-Only from
Properties. I'll try that and see if it works.

I'd still look for other *.xlb files and move/delete them. I think they're
clutter and they can confuse me later when I want to get things done.
