XL file has become read only

A file I access every day has mysteriously become read only a couple
of days ago. I looked at the file attributes, but it's not read only
there. I searched here and on other XL ng's, and tried cleaning out
the Temp folder as someone suggested. No joy there. Any other ideas on
how to make this file back to normal?

Thanks!

What about the security attributes of the folder that it resides in?

Thanks for the suggestion. Just checked, they're not Read Only.

Hi Dave,

Don't know what the problem is but maybe try;
Close the file.
Go into Windows Explorer and change the file name slightly.
Double click it to reopen it.
Then do a "save as" back to your original file name.
If that works out delete the dodgy file.

Is it only one file this is happening to? Is there some kind of
anti-virus scanner Office plugin, involved?

Yes

Not sure what this means? If you're asking if I have virus protection
on the computer, the answer is yes. What is a "anti-virus scanner
Office plugin"? What do you mean by "involved"? I'm at work, and we
have CA anti-virus software. I don't believe it has anything to do
with MS Office.

Thanks for the reply, Martin. I tried your suggestion, but when I try
to save the new file under the original file name, I get a message
that I can't do that because the old file cannot be accessed because
it's read only. I also tried deleting the original file, but again, I
get the "sharing violation" error message, and I'm not permitted to
delete it. Any other suggestions?
