XL 2000 'calculate' won't go away

Ready Calculate
won't go away

The spreadsheet is large and has many complex formulas, but
no custom functions. I've tried shift-F9, save & re-open,
and other workstations. All updates installed....wtf?

any help appreciated.

When you reach a certain amount of formula references Excel keeps
showing the calculate message. See Charles Williams' site
www.decisionmodels.com for more information about Excels calculation
engine.
