Xerox M750 Printer Driver

B

Bruce

Hi,

I have three Xerox DocuPrint M750 inkjet printers. They were
discontinued about two years ago, but mine still print fine and ink is
still available.

They were all installed to Win9X boxes.

I have a new XPHome machine, and I connected the M750. I would have
installed a the OEM driver for it, but Xerox doesn't make one, and says
to use the XP supplied driver. So, I installed the XP driver for it,
which XP shows as being 'digitally signed'.

Problem is that I no longer have a panel that shows me the ink levels in
each of the four cartridges, which was a great help.

I know this may be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but has
anyone else come across this and been able to solve the problem?

Xerox makes drivers for the M750 for Win9x, 2000, and NT, but not XP.

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bruce.

All I can offer you is sympathy. I also have an M750 printer and the
XP driver has never reported the ink cartridge levels. Xerox has been
of absolutely no help in this regard - I started hounding them during
the XP beta testing.

My "solution" is a bit drastic. My computer is configured for booting
multiple operating systems so I keep Windows Me installed on one of
the partitions and once every couple of weeks or so I boot into
WindowsMe and check on the ink levels. Then I reboot back into XP for
"production" work.

I think I will be replacing the M750 pretty soon. Ink is expensive
and hard to find in this area, and I have had poor luck so far with
refilled cartridges in it.

Hi Bruce, I work on printers/faxes/copiers for a living.
If the manufacturer does not have an updated driver
specifically dealing with your printer you are going to
be out of luck, I beleive it is a collateral way for the
OEM's to encourage people to buy newer models. On some of
the higher end machines they will develop newer versions
of the driver to keep up to date with newer OS. I find
the manufacturers are having a hard enough time trying to
keep the drivers up to date enough to print from the huge
volume of new software that is coming out all the time.

Thanks, Mike,

I was going to settle for the 'crippled' driver, but I then began having
still other problems, so I uninstalled the M750 completely.

I bought an Epson CX5200 (printer/flat-bed copier/scanner, individual inks
tanks) for my in-law's XP machine last January, for $198. It works fine,
so I bought one for myself last night since I found one at Office Max for
$149 plus a $20 rebate plus a $30 Office Max gift card. I'll hook it up
this weekend when I have more time.

I use an HP LaserJet 6L for most of my printing needs, which doesn't
include color. The HP was attached to a Win9x box, and moving it to this
XP machine did cause me to loose some default settings that I did have in
Win9x. I used to be able to set the econo mode to default in Win9x, but in
XP, I have to reset every time I print a document.
