I'm torn trying to choose between XP Pro and XP Media Center. The only thing
I want Media Center for is recording live TV and Wirelessly connecting to an
XBox. Can those two items be done in XP Professional? If not, why?

Carey, you really need to take you head out of your ass BEFORE reading
and replying to posts.

To the OP:

You really haven't given enough info to answer the question.

Are you considering buying a new computer with components that can do
wireless networking and record live TV?

Do you already have those components, and want to just upgrade your OS?

You do realize that neither OS can do either of the things you want with
out the right hardware, don't you?

If you have the hardware, then either of the OS's will do what you want,
though you'll need additional software, that usually comes with a TV
tuner card, to record live TV on XP Pro.

I am buying a new system that will have the capable hardware. I've tried to
ask Microsoft Sales, but they can't seem to give me a straight answer. I
would think you could do that with XP Pro if it is a higher end operating
system. I don't need Media Center if all it gives me is a mindless interface
to multimedia.

So can XP Pro record live TV with the correct hardware and can it connect
wirelessly to an XBox?
Thanks a ton,
Mike

Yes to the XBox. And if you are buying a computer with the hardware and
software to record live TV, then Pro can do that too.

You can run XBox wirelessly, just by having cable (for Halo2), and a router.
We have three XBox systems running wirelessly here in my home. As for the
MCE, the price should have dwindled down by now and be about the same. I
have not allowed my boys to use the XBox connection on my MCE system. As
for TV, add a tuner card as for the rest, if the price is comparable, make
your own choice.
