I've been using XanaNews for a week or so and love it, but there is one
gotcha you should beware of.

For my ISP, the login to the news server is my true email address.
UNLESS YOU CHANGE IT, XanaNews will put that true address in the header
of your outgoing messages. That's a real no-no on Usenet. I have it
fixed now, but a couple dozen messages are out there with the real one.

Here come de spam!

Damn.

Which header field did it put your real address in "FROM:", "SENDER:"
or "REPLY-TO"?

BTW Are you aware that nohow.com is also an existing domain and you are
producing spam for them also by using this so-called fake address? If
you want a correct fake address, put .invalid at the end.

It is even a larger problem with my ISP; as it *always* puts my real,
valid mail address into the header, no matter what I insert into
$mailing program. And only recently, the made an offer to the common
(not premium) customer, to have more than one email address (ie allow
for a reserved one for the junk mails)

I had to deal with SWEN in autumn 2003, which swamped my account with
worm-laden mails; and emptying the mailbox would only let more in from
the mail queue. I had to change my address, so that SWEN would not
touch it, and this is why it looks that way today.

A *valid* mail with "spam" or "remove" inside helps a lot (although it
doesn't scare the Nigerians and Phishers away). At least the drug and
"make-a-non-existing-body-part-bigger" spam rate dropped in a steep
curve, and I rarely get stuff of that kind, nowadays.

It isn't the best of all solutions, but helps.

i installed xana, dug into lots of flexible appearing options, but i just recall that actually using xana was a bit cryptic. i shoudl be
able to get it to do somethgn useful when i next give it a go.

thanks for the warning.

i've also noticed that some news/mail apps refuse to allow you to enter the special usernames that aer required by spam filter
apps. so you have to edit teh account after the"wizard' is done.

i guess before actually using these, i'ts a good idea to review all that (account settings), then send yourself test-mails, then
test-post to one of the test newsgroups.

so there's your concept in action. you must have looked for a better isp.

i wonder if the Tor and software proxy method would help you?

i used to have that trouble, a few months before i switched to another isp. i never useed teh mail, except to check for messages
from the isp. IIIRC, very few spam accumulated. but happened a few years ago. and i think i stopped or reduced posting for
those last few months? or maybe the isp fixed teh problem after only a month? i can't remember.
