X700 problems

I have been having reboot problems on this card when running
Google Earth and FS 2004. I got a message from Microsoft to
update to the latest driver, which it already was or to disable
hardware acceleration which doesn't help. My question is what does
turning off Hardware acceleration do to performance and if anyone
has any ideas as to how to fix the problem. Any help will be
appreciated as I know very little about video cards.

No one

There seem to be an attitude here, I am not sure why unless the folks here
think that it is not worth their time, as they are too smart to indulge us
average Joes,
However I will take a stab at this, I am a computer guy , but may main area
is networking.
I have learned that random reboots are alot of times related to over
heating. I am not saying this is your problem but it is a place to start, Do
the progs you describe put an extra heavy load on the video card?
The next place I would look is if the progs authors/support provide a patch
for your particular video card and the games mentioned?
Are you running the latest drivers for your card? and if so are you up to
date on the direct X?
Wish I could help more but maybe because the GODS of this group see a reply,
they may take the time to rebuke my statements which will at least get some
attention to your thread.
Good Luck, and if I can help you please let me know. This used to be a good
place to get advice prior to every Tom DICK and Harry getting access to
newsgroups, with the advent of news readers for the masses, prior to that it
was mostly people with a willingness to help and a vast amount of knowledge.
I realize I am setting myself up for flames, (if anyone remembers what those
are) but to get this guy some help it's worth it.

Wish you well,
John

You might have a problem with the card over heating and crashing the
system or you might have a problem where the power draw of the video
card is causing problems with the power supply.
To check the first problem you could feel the card after one of these
crashes to see if it is too hot to touch. If this is the case and the
fan, if any, appears to be working you will need to improve the air flow
around the video card. This can be done either with an add-on card or
with a fan in the side of the case.
To check the second problem you can use a monitoring program like
Speedfan to see if the voltages are correct and don't change when you
enter a graphics intensive program. You could also try swapping out the
power supply to see if the problem disappears.
