X1900XT DOA?

Hello,

I built a new system (Antec P180 case, BenQ FP202W, Asus EAX1900XT,
Athlon 64 X2 3800, 2 GB Corsair memory, Tagan 480 Watt powersupply,
Asus A8R32-MVP motherboard, WD 74 GB Raptor) and I have a problem: the
EAX1900XT seems DOA (Dead On Arrival)!

My BenQ-monitor says it doesn't get a signal from the videocard (tried
it with DVI and analogue VGA). The monitor works, because I have tried
it with my previous system. I also tried my old monitor with the new
computer and it also doesn't get a signal.

The green led on the Asus A8R32-MVP is on (so that's working alright),
the cooler of the videocard works, but apparently doens't give a
signal. The extra 6-pin PCIe-connector from the Tagan powersupply IS
connected to the videocard.

I'm afraid I don't have a spare PCIe videocard laying around to test
if the rest of the new system is working.

Is my EAX1900XT DOA? Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks.

Random suggestion: Double-check that you are using the dedicated PCI-X
power connection from your PSU, and not one of the normal power leads. You
said you did plug it in but look at your PSU and make sure the lead to your
vid card comes out of the PCI-X plug. I don't know if it actually makes a
diff or not but it's worth checking.

Make sure that the TV-OUT VIVO connector is not connected. There is a
problem, I think, where it inits the VIVO first, and only, if both crt/dvi
and tv-out are connected.

worth a shot

I checked. The correct cable is in de PSU and the videocard. It's
colorcoded.

No, there's no TV-OUT connector connected.

I wish I had a spare PCIe videocard so I could check if that works...

Thanx,

Buy one from Future Shop and keep your receipt and preserve the packaging.
They will let you return it no questions asked within 14 days. I did it
with two cards a couple weeks ago.... trouble with my X1900XTX, so I bought
a GF7800GT and an X1600Pro to help with the investigation. After figuring
things out, I returned the two new cards with no hassle.

Have you tried using the other PCIe x16 slot?

Make sure the plastic continuity card is inserted in the unused PCIe slot.
(Or is that only with the older A8R-MVP?...)

Yes.

To be sure I bought a new supercheap PCIe videocard and that also
doesn't display. This seems to me that the problem isn't with the
videocard, but more with a faulty motherboard or the Athlon 64 X2
3800+...
