x-rated website attack

when browsing the internet, my computer is
often "attacked" by an avalanche of x-rated websites.
they line up on the taskbar at bottom of the screen, and
then pop up one after the other. sometimes you have to
shut down the computer to get rid of them. i've scanned
my computer for viruses and it shows none. i've also
run "Spyware" removal software, but the problem persists.
how to stop this?

If you ran AdAware and it didn't find anything, also run Spybot Search &
Destroy - it may find some things AdAware issed.

In other news - do you have a good firewall, keep your antivirus software
updated, and run Windows Update regularly?

What spyware software have you run? I would recommend "Spybot Search and
Destroy" if you have not already used it. It seems to have more detections
than applications such as Ad-Aware. Do make sure Spybot and your AV program
have the most current updates before you scan. You may also want to
download something that blocks popups; Google Toolbar works pretty well for
me, and it has the added benefit of searching from anywhere. HTH.

Try the google toolbar. It has a built in pop-up blocker
and it's free at www.google.com

surfer, get the blacklist. Kills permission box's too,
homepage change.

I used to get these and it has to do with a couple of

things. Check your security settings to make aure you are
not broadcasting your IP address. There are settings
within windows to do this. Also, go to
www.majorgeeks.com, and download a program called Anti-
Windows Messenger. A lot of hackers get to you through
messenger which is integrally linked to IE and Outlook.
The last suggestion would be to incorporate a firewall.
You would be amazed at what you are actually broadacsting
to someone when you are unprotected.

Run SpyBot after doing the "search for updates"
Immunize your computer with SpyBot

Be sure your anti-virus is current and you have done all the
Windows Updates.
