WXP setup - Unable to copy - Invalid Windows Image

T

tetreaultl

I'm trying to install WXP on to a PC I just bought.

When I tried to install at the stage in the bootable setup when it is
copying needed files from the CD to the HD, at around 17 % setup starts
to throw up errors saying that some files are not valid windows images -
files such as ntoskrnl.exe and various other critical dll's and exe's.

If I press enter repeatedly to retry the file copy sometimes setup manages
to copy it correctly, but most of the time not. Ignoring the errors by
pressing escape does not help either.

I have tried installing WXP from other CD same result

I then tried installing Win98 on the same PC with the original CD drive, and
it worked just fine, and I had 98 up and running in no time.
I then formatted the drive and tried to install W2K.. not fully - only as
a test to see if I could get past copying files stage, yet the same errors
occurred.

Thank's in advance

Louis

Do you have anything more specific please.

I did not really found thing to help me there.

Exactly the same problem that I am having except I am
hitting it at 13% of files copied or less. I have tried
switching out the CD drive, no help. I haven't tried
installing 98, but I am having no luck with 2K or XP right
now.

Listening to see what the solution is.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike

Seems like we aren't getting much help. I am trying to
load from files copied to the hard drive now.

Here's the process I used:

from dos, I made a directory c:\xp

Then I copied the files in the i386 directory of the xp
disk to the c:xp directory.

Then I ran dos command c:\xp\winnt

The files are currently copying from that command. I am
thinking that once the files are copied from the disk to
the hard drive the file copying problem should be out of
the way. It did take several attempts to copy the files
to the C drive. It's a lot of files.

Good luck to us both,

Mike

From now what I think and I'm will verify it soon. It's the possibility of a
memory problem, I'm waiting for new memory simms and will tell you what
happend when I'll have them changed.

Well I confirm that the problem I was getting has been resolved with new
memory sim.

After I changed the memory Window installed itself perfectly
