WUtooL - Save MS Windows Updates

Frustrated by having to reapply Windows Updates over dial-up? Want to
ensure you can recreate your version of the OS? Need to update a PC
without a connection or multiple PCs?

WUTooL lets you save the downloaded updates instead of automatically
deleting them.

With my usual timing, just when I no longer need this (now ADSL), I
find it.

Our program is a good companion to Windows Update. Windows update is
required because of things like the MSBlast worm and other problems
but Microsoft doesn't allow users to save updates on a local drive.
The updates are immediately removed after installation. This is not
convenient and you will have to download the update pack again if you
wish to patch any other computers with the same version.

WUtooL will solve this problem. Launch the program, then go to the
menu and click File >> Windows Update. WUtooL will take control of the
download and save the patches to a special folder on your hard drive.
Updating your operating system with this program is very simple.

For example, now you can safely reboot computer while you are
installing several updates. On the next restart, WUtooL will offer to
continue your installation. The program has several new and convenient
features such as command-line parameters, etc.

For Windows XP SP2 users !
Microsoft has considerably changed updating routine, so you can't save
hotfixes by previous versions of our program.
Since all WUtooL 1.xx versions store patches in the same way, just run
WUtooL_1.16.exe and copy new executable to the previous location by
Wizard.

All of the critical updates I've downloaded are still on the drive.
They just have a meaningless name and no extension. This program
located them all in a single directory and uses "noname" to describe
each.

"6:21:50 Update #1
"C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\04c0feb3baf259fb2f758216b41468e47a908967"
is got from Windows Update.

16:21:50 Update #2
"C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\50f1253be9ffe094c99953becd8b44ac0d68eebc"
is got from Windows Update.

etc...

This program found Update 1 file:
"04c0feb3baf259fb2f758216b41468e47a908967" and links to a
"noname.exe," adding an executable extension.

I renamed the above file with an .exe extension and it ran:

"04c0feb3baf259fb2f758216b41468e47a908967.exe"

I'll bet the critical updates are also still stored on 98-ME
somewhere. If so, you can name each by date/time, 1.exe, 2,exe, etc.
and do pretty much what this program does. Sort by creation date to
keep them in order. The names MS gives the updates aren't much more
intelligible than the gibberish filenames listed above. Renaming to
1.exe, 2.exe, 3.exe, etc. and placing on a CD is the most logical way
to keep the darned things archived in order and accomplish more than
what this program does.
