This item updates the list root certificates on your computer to the latest
list that is accepted by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Root Certificate
Program. Adding additional root certificates to your computer enables the use
of Extended Validation (EV) certificates in Internet Explorer 7, a greater
range of security enhanced Web browsing, encrypted e-mail, and security
enhanced code delivery.

Ah--thanks. That explains why that one was offered on a machine I touched
this afternoon which I had expected to be entirely up to date.

These EV certs are a Good Thing--probably mostly for the cert vendors, at
the moment, but in the long run, if you are in E-commerce, they will help
provide some differentiation of reputation.

Basically, the cert vendors take some extra care when providing these
certificates, and the certificates enable higher levels of encryption--both
of which should provide some level of increased comfort when you are dealing
with money over the Internet.

I've got to admit that I haven't been to a bank or credit card site that
uses one yet, though!
