Been using this one for the last couple of years and then all of a sudden
tonight whilst using Firefox and with PIN's running, Firefox crashed, PIN's
exited and when I re-accessed my password file, everything had gone!!! ...
0kb!!
Good job I had a backup. So anyway, now this has happened, I just feel a
little nervous now about using PIN's and was looking for an alternative
really.

I really like 'Password KeyChain'.It's nice and simple and very

I like PINs4 [http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/pins.html]. This version
includes a hotkey for inserting userid and password into the corresponding
fields (whether on a webpage or elsewhere) and pressing the OK button. So
far I've not been able to find any other freeware application that does
this as efficiently / easily as PINs. With most others you have to copy and
paste paste userid and password separately. PINs doesn't do it
automatically like Roboform, but Roboform's free version limits the number
of passwords you can store.

Lars,
I had it set to not make .bak copies on save. Think maybe I have learnt my
lesson there!! As I say, I normally backup all my importnat files to CD
very week so at least I had the backup from a few days ago.

You might want to try Password safe. It's quite good.

The problem with whisper (or the version I tried) is that it is very
tedious to use IMO once you start getting dozens (hundreds) of
passwords. As far as searching is concerned.
What would be good would be a search function so that if looking for
an entry that had "x" in that only those "hits" containing "x" would
show up. Or "xa" only those entries with xa. I don't know if the
current version has this.
Perhaps there is another password manager with this capability ?

Recently, I upgraded from a Win98Se computer to a
new XP system.
On the XP system, Oubliette would not recognize my
password. Fortunately, I had the passwords etc
stored in PWsafe and this transfered without
any problems. PWsafe has much the same functionality

problem....yet! But I will have a look at PWsafe to be, well, safe-I guess!

Probably none of the above but I use a plain text file inside of an
encrypted zip file using a "good" password. Same file can be accessed on
every system and OS I use and no vendor lockin or dependancies. Thats more
important to me than integration with browsers etc.
