WTB: Lot of cheap 25mm fans

L

Larry Fox

I'm looking for a small lot (5-10) of 25mmx10mm fans, the type usually
found in laptops. Used is fine as long as they work. 5V is
preferred, but I'll consider 12V fans as well.

I'll pay $12 shipped for 5 of them, $20 shipped for 10.

Please respond to: (e-mail address removed)

Thanks!

This post of out of place here, this is not a FS/FT/WTB/etc
newsgroup.

Hint: I think you'll pay $12 shipped for one or two, not 5.
Hint2: eBay

My bad. I didn't see any FAQ for the group...

You're right about the prices for new fans. That's why I asked the
question here hoping that someone might have a stash of older, used
fans for cheap.

Thanks.

It can be assumed that only groups that specifically endorse such
posts, are a proper place for them. It is not necessary for a
group to specifically mention all the things not allowed, where
would that list ever end?

Tiny fans like that usually aren't worth reusing even if they
were free, after being "used" and pulled. If you can't find
anything on ebay you might try electronics surplus 'sites but
those may not have the correct connectors, the savings may not be
worth it. Here's one for $3 ea.

But often the case is that the newsgroup is open to all posts that
apply to the group topic, not only specific types of posts. Usually
if certain types of posts are not wanted (i.e., For Sale), a FAQ is
used to cover this.

Anyway, let's not let this discussion to degrade into an argument...

Thanks for the info. I already found a source for brand new 12v 25mm
fans at $2 each (plus shipping) on eBay, and picked up 6 fans for
under $18. They're not being used in laptops, so the connector type
and quality aren't terribly important (they're to be used as homemade
fans for my paintball masks). Since each fan will be powered by a
single 9v battery, the 12v fans are probably a better solution since a
5v fan would be pushed beyond it normal operating range, possibly
leading to increased noise and shortening the life of the fan.

You're right, 5V fan @ 9V would often (depends on specific
fan) likely be too high, 12V is a better solution.
