Wrong Password Produces Limited or No Connectivity

Last week, I was visiting my daughter and tried to connect to her wireless
network with my laptop (XP Home) by viewing available wireless networks and
clicking connect. I though I knew the correct password but when I typed it
in I got a 'Limited or No Connectivity' message. When I finally remembered
the password I connected normally and things were fine. I believe her
network is WEP.

Is it normal to get the Limited or No Connectivity message under this
circumstance?

Thank you.

Hmm! Seems that the a proper response would be something like, 'Incorrect
Password.'

Thank you.

Yes, I've seen that happen from time to time.

You'd think so, but the problem lies in what result the drivers return for
the error. The correct response should be to not associate with the AP, as
you'd think - but some return the wrong error and appear to be associated
but unable to pick up an IP address.
