Wrong Icon For Start Menu Item

J

JamesJ

I pinned a exe to the Vista Basic Start Menu. At first it displayed the
proper icon but
for some reason now it displays a generic icon.
I posted this problem before but I had screwed up and had to reinstall the
program (not the same as this one)
which fixed the problem.
I've deleted IconCache.db in my user folder but it did no good.
Anyone know why this happens? How might I prevent this from occurring?

Thanks,
James

Most likely a bug by the programmer that created the install file or the
program you are running isn't designed for Vista. In the Start menu go to the
item, right click and then select properties at the bottom of the pop up
screen. Look at the location of the exe file in the Target box. Press the
change icon button and the programs icons could be displayed. If not then hit
the browse button at navigate to the exe file, select it and then choose an
icon. If for some reason the icons are not displayed when you go to the exe
file then you should go back to the alternate icons offered by Vista and use
one of those.

That's the odd thing. Everywhere else in Vista this (and this has happened
before with
other programs) program displays the correct icon. If I place it on the
desktop, in the
quickstart menu and in explorer it disp[lays the proper icon. Wheni I right
click the icon
in the Vista Start menu ther iIS no button for 'Change Icon'. Actually it
appears to have
fixed itself. I was have a problem with something else and decided to boot
into Safe Mode.
I then rebooted to a normal starup and the icon then displayed properly.
Again this has happend several time with different programs and rebuidling
the icon cache didn't seem to help

I seems to have fixed itself, although I did rebuild the cache once and it
didn't work. Next time, and it will happen again,
l'll try method 2 in the tutorial

Thanks,
