Wrong file associations within Winzip

Running XP. I have mpg files configured to open with Irfanview. They
show up with the Irfanview icon in Windows Explorer, and when I
double-click on them, they open properly with Irfanview.

However, if I zip a bunch of mpg files and double-click on the zip
file, they are displayed with the WMP icon, and that's how they open. I
can change the file association back to Irfanview, but I can't make the
change stick.

Is there an easy way to make (always) them open the program I
specified?

Note - no problem with jpg files. They open with Irfanview as
specified, both normally and from within Winzip.

Note - I never had that problem with Win982E.

<Right> mouse click on a ZIP file and select "Open With" -- then select the
WinZip program and ALSO select the check box to ALWAYS use this program.

What version of Winzip?
I recall having that problem with some earlier versions in Win98 SE
but version 9 seemed to be free of it.
Yes, it was a nuisance as Winzip seemed to use the first Open action
in File Types, rather than the default action.

Winzip 9.

I think Irfanview must use WMP as a plugin. When I told WMP not to open
mpg files, Irfanview wouldn't open them either.

But that doesn't explain why it worked fine in Win98 and not in XP. As
far as I know I'm not doing anything different.

I'm asking Winzip Support directly - should have done that before. If I
learn anything useful I'll post it here.
