Wrong Disk Space info??

Lee Beck

If I right click on my 120 GB Maxtor D:\ drive it shows 60
GB used (and half the pie is blue). Yet, the sum of all
directories on that drive totals only 14 GB. Chkdsk shows
60 GB used. Software that writes
large files to this drive indicates only half the drive is
available.

This happened a couple of months ago and I had to (or at
least I did) reformatted the drive to get the full
capacity back. I figured it was a fluke. But now it's
happened again.

Is this a hardware problem or a windows problem? In both
cases, I had some very large files that I deleted
(video). I've used disk cleanup to empty the recycle bin.

Anyone ever seen this happen or know how to fix it?

If this is NOT formated as NTFS, all sorts of strange behavior can be expected.
Have you applied SP4 (or at least SP3)?
