Wharf Rat, you're obviously relaying second-hand information that you
heard at the water-cooler in the office (or on the swings in
kindergarten), but DRM does not cripple Vista, as your statement
suggests.

I have a library of well over 67,000 songs and nearly 600 movies that I
encoded for use with Media Center and my XBox Extender, and DRM has not
once been a factor.

So just because it's never happened to you, it could never happen to
anyone else in the entire universe running Vista? You need to take off
those blinders!

Using Vista for nearly a year (excluding BETA testing) is hardly
"anecdotal"! I have never once had an issue with DRM in Vista.

A single unverified personal report is anecdotal.

The problem isn't the software (necessarily) or the data files.
The problem is hardware that doesn't meet Microsoft's requirements
for circuit level encryption.

Can you use an S/PDIF connection? TOSlink? Component video?
Or maybe you're using HDMI. Do these work for you under Vista? Why not?
Give me hard proof that DRM is crippling Vista, and I may change my
mind.

Path Output Content Protection (PVP-OPM) in Windows Vista."

That is incoreect. Not many give the XP option. The only option I had was
any one of the Vista operationg systems in 32-bit and 64-bit. At times I
would like to have XP but did I have a choice. No. It was Vista or NOTHING.

I am not into Microsoft bashing, and I genuinely think XP is a great
Yes, you are. And many people do not understand the choice they are making.
They try to hang on an OS that is on the way out. Obviously you have no
comprehension XP has outlived itself. It is not a secure system. It provides
a termendous liability for MS. Vista has so many new features a new user
will savot once he realizes what they are. I know it because of my own
experience. When I bought my previous batch of 3 DELL coputers 3 or 4 year
ago I forced them to put Win2K on all systems while they recommended XPs. I
realized 2 years later that I ws a total fool. They did a custom install for
me. I wish I was a bit smarter.

You are a complete fool Jupiter, and yoiu will realize it perhaps too late.

Why is all this whining, whimpering and moaning? You can roll down to your
XP any time. Do you want me to provide you links to MS websites if you are
so mentally incompetent that cannot find them yourselves.

It is a shame you are MVP. Does it stand for Most Vituperative Person in
your case? Shame on you, idiot!

That's a bit harsh. XP will need to be around, as legacy apps and
hardware continue to run on it. Some have the vista capable logo, and
some don't. I recently worked on a network using 2000. The
computers work fine with it.

XP just released SP 3 not too long ago. it'll be around for a while.
I'd love to see them update the network stuff, so it will integrate
better with Vista. We'll have to wait and see.

For being so wise and knowing (sic), I'd think you'd know how to use a
newsreader properly....which means to be able to read a post and know who
was saying what in the post, and be able to actually reply to the correct
post....but you can't.

Get a 'real' newsreader. 'Real' here means decent stand-alone client,
like XNews, Agent, or XanaNews, etc.

FYI.....Windows Mail is malware, but it works great on Linux. DOH!!!!!

Don't go to that liquor store anymore, Dans. You see how badly their stuff
affects your brain. Better turn your TV on and watch beer commercials. Do
vicarious drinking.

Sorry, I rarely indulge in the use of alcohol.

Hi

I understand that you believe that you can but a computer with either Vista
or XP installed. THIS IS NOT THE CASE in a computer store PCworld will not
sell an XP machine because it does not stock them. If you want an XP mahine
you have to prove that you are a business then wait 2 weeks for the machine
of choice to arrive.

Vista has been brought into the market place with out customer choice and in
this day and age customer choice is what selling is about.

Jugding by the number of compliants of performance and quality of vista MS
must surley be thinking again.

Looking at other blogs do you know why SP1 has been pulled from general
release

Mark,

You can purchase a new computer with Windows XP preinstalled, and you
can also purchase the XP operating system from certain computer vendors. You
simply have to know where to look. I see them all the time.
If you wish to install XP on a computer just be sure you have the XP
hardware and drivers available. It would be foolhardy to downgrade to XP on
a computer that came with Vista preinstalled due to hardware and driver
issues.
SP1 HAS NOT been pulled from general release. It hasn't even been
released to the public yet. That will happen sometime in mid-March. An SP1
prerequisite update was pulled from Windows Automatic Updates due to the
problems it caused a limited number of users. The update was then offered as
a standalone update and is available if you desire it. I sent you the
download link in a previous post of yours. It doesn't really matter as the
prerequisite updates will be contained in the SP1 update release.
I agree with you on the matter of customer choice. It is your choice to
buy Vista or not buy Vista. If Vista suits nine out of ten people I don't
expect Microsoft to change anything for the sole benefit of you or anyone
else. If a company's marketing department or development department refused
to release a new product until it satisfied everyone then nothing would ever
be released because satisfying everyone is inherently impossible. I would
love to have a Rolls Royce, Ferrari or Lamborghini but the fact that I
cannot afford one does not stop the companies from making them. I would love
to have a degree in nuclear physics or molecular physics but I lack the
intelligence. That does not stop universities from offering the courses. I
would love to have my children listen to me when I tell them something for
their own good but I don't see that happening either.
The complaints about quality and performance you allude to are from
people who either don't understand the differences between XP and Vista or
haven't yet learned how to properly use the Vista OS. You simply CANNOT load
unsafe, outdated or incompatible software, or attempt to use inefficient or
incompatible hardware with Vista and expect it to work properly. Basically,
Vista is protecting the user from himself or herself.
I would love to see you solve your problems because if you did I am
certain you would be well pleased with Vista. You will understand the
differences and be thankful for them. It's the same as changing from
standard underwear to boxers. It may be harder to find and/or use something
but in time you will succeed.
