Writing to a CD

I have been copying pictures to CD's. On the last one I did, I think I
overfilled it. All of the files seem to be gone except for one. If you
overfill a CD does it delete all the existing files? Is there a way to get
them back? I can't figure our why it decided to keep only one folder. Any
help would be greatly appreciated; they were pictures of my kids and the CD
was started long ago so some of the original files have been deleted.

If the TOC (table of contents) was damaged then this can happen or you can
lose access to all files on the disc. For that reason I keep a couple of
recovery programs close at hand. One is called ISO Buster
http://www.smart-projects.net/ and the other is called CD/DVD Diagnostic
http://www.infinadyne.com/cddvd_diagnostic.html
These programs are able to bypass the TOC and access raw data. I've found
both to be quite good although you will need to purchase the product to
recover your files you should be able to see what is recoverable with the
trialware versions. Anyone who burns data to discs should have one of these
or something similar as optical media will fail sooner or later.
