CD writing wizard

I recently sent a question in on the subject I have been researching for some
time and thought a little more information would be helpful. I have Windows
XP SP2 and have been coping Word doc., Excel spread sheets, and photos to
CD-Rs and RWs for sometime now. Recently (couple months ago) I have had
trouble coping files to the CD’s. The CD writing wizard shows me an error
message “cannot complete the CD writing wizard†“There was an error in the
writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be
usable.†I found a Microsoft article ID324129 that had the heading “cannot
complete the CD writing wizardâ€. I followed the suggestions and still have
the same problem. I currently have easy CD creator 5.3 basic and Direct CD
5.0. both were installed when I bought the computer.
I have checked the manufactures web sites for updates for drivers on the CD
read / write devices. I have changed the speed, where windows stores images.
I have made sure that the “enable CD recording is on.†I have tried two
different manufactures of CD-R and RW’s.
On the Microsoft website there were many topics on the windows media player
7.0. I have 11.0 would this have any thing to do with my current problem? I
have tried to contact Roxio and they are having issues with their web site
and as of 12/26/06 I have not been able to e-mail them. (had to setup an
account and have not heard back from them)

Any suggestion

Hi Randy -

I'm not sure if it's the cause of your issue or not but your version of
Roxio is a bit outdated and maybe incompatible with Windows XP. Also, I had
no problem accessing the Roxio site. Here's a link to a FREE program you
can download that will burn data and music files. It's very easy to use and
works with XP. Give it a try and post back.

Hope this helps,

The easy CD creator was working with XP, maybe an update in XP triggered the
problem. I have CDBurner XP Pro 3. and it works fine, I am one of those
people that need to know why something stops working I guess. I had Nero but
uninstalled it thinking that was my problem.

If you updated your system to SP2, that could be the problem. I think Easy
CD Creator only worked with SP1. Did it stop working after you installed
SP2?

I have EZ Cd Creator 5.3 on several machines that run SP2 and they work just
fine.
