write-protected files

I am trying to delete the files on my usb thumb drive, finger drive, whatever
it's called, I keep getting a message that the files are write protected so I
am not able to delete them any ideas on how to take off the
"write-protection" ???

Look carefully at the thumbdrive. Many of them have a little switch to
toggle read/write status. My Memorex has a little switch. Your
thumbdrive probably has something similar and you've got it set to
read-only.

I had that on mine, even though it wasn't write protected. When I try
and use the software that came with it it says it can't find the drive.

I've given up and am buying a USB hard drive instaed.
