wowexec

I'm hoping for some help on running a 16 bit program on XP.
It has run perfectly previously for some years but now I get the
"Application Error" WOWEXEC caused an illegall instruction fault in
WOW32.dll at 0x0ffb7bff
I have Norton AV which was removed a while ago as per an instruction to edit
the register etc which worked fine I think. I used Widows Live One Care but
hadn't run this 16 bit program until recently when I got this error. Since
then I've re-installed Norton AV thinking it might help but still get the
error.
Sysedit comes up with the same error so I'm thinking it isn't the 16 bit
program problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mark, what a man!
I am very slightly PC literate and I have been looking into this for a week
now without results, but one posting on here and you've pointed me in the
right direction and cured my problem.
I must thank you very much for what seems a very easy solution, only easy if
you have the know how, which obviously you have.
Thanks again.
