WOWEXEC (Windows on Windows executable) is part of the
WIN16 subsystem. Removal of WOWEXEC can cause MS-DOS and
WIN16 to cease functioning.
You can use EXPAND from your Windows XP Setup disc to
restore the file:
Start > Run... > "CMD" [ENTER]
d: [ENTER] (assuming D: is the CD-ROM drive with the
Windows XP disc)
cd i386 [ENTER]
expand wowexec.ex_ c:\windows\system32\wowexec.exe [ENTER]
This will restore the file WOWEXEC.EXE (The procedure can
be used for any system file that is missing)
