Communicating with devices connected to the COM ports

Is there a terminal program in XP that I can use to communicate with devices
conencted to the COM ports?

I've been using an old terminal.exe from an earlier versjon of windows. But
the problem is that when I close down that terminal program 2 files seems to
still be open when I have look in the task mananger. (the files are
wowexec.exe and ntvdm.exe) When I then try to connect to another com port
with another program... it states that it cannot open the port. When I go to
task manager and close down wowexec.exe and ntvdm.exe I can connect with the
other program again.

If XP don't have a terminal program, do you have a good tip for what program
I can try?

Hi,

It's a problem with how XP handles old 16 bit programs. The two files you
mentioned are part of how it works (backwards compatibility). Terminating
the program does not terminate the supporting processes. Eventually, they
usually halt on thier own, but otherwise you will need to continue doing as
you have been.

hypertrm.exe

Searching in Help and Support can't find hypertrm.
But this is in Accessories/Communications
