World War II Pacific Heroes

I have a PC that is 1 year old, P4, 1gb memory, ATI Radeon 9550 AGP 128Mb
card (MSI RX9550SE T128). WheI try and start the game, I get an error box pop
up that says " pacific.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience" and goes on to sya Please tell Microsoft
about this problem and gives option to Debug, send error report, don't Send.
If I send, nothing comes back and I am unable to find the problem. I have
updated Windows components. The system requirements on the box for the game
says an ATI Radeon card with gfx is required. Can this be the problem?

Thanks in advance

First thing I'd try is disabling other background applications, virus
scanners, other stuff running etc can cause problems. To make sure
everything non-essential is shut down;

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL which will bring up the task manager.
- Click on the processes tab will show the programs currently running on the
system.
-> Select all the ones that are running as your username - not system or
services.
--> Make sure any unsaved data in those programs is first saved and click
end process to close the selected ones.

Once you've done that try running the game again - if it works; then reboot
and close them down one at a time to see if you can work out the process is
causing the issue.

Hi peterwolfe,

In addition to Paul Smith's excellent advice ...

The following applies to most games in general, and not just to the games that
may be listed in the KB Article refered to in this post.

SYMPTOMS:

When you start or play any one of the games that is listed in the "Applies to" section, you may experience one or more of the
following symptoms:

..The game stops responding.
..The game quits unexpectedly.
..The computer restarts unexpectedly.
..The game stops and an error occurs

Additionally, you may receive the following error message after you receive the Gathering Exception Data dialog box:
<Game Name>has encountered a problem and needs to close.

RESOLUTION:

Method 1: Restart your computer by using a clean boot procedure
Method 2: Remove and Reinstall the Game
Method 3: Adjust graphics hardware acceleration
Method 4: Disable AGP Texturing in the DirectX Diagnostic tool
Method 5: Temporarily disable the sound card in Windows
Method 6: Lower sound acceleration
Method 7 : Download and install the most recent version of DirectX
Method 8: Update your video driver
Method 9: Update your sound driver
Method 10: Scan your computer for viruses
Method 11: Remove spyware
Method 12: Install the latest VIA chipset drivers
Method 13: Create a new user account in Windows XP
Method 14: Change the compatibility setting
