workstations very slow on first bootup of the day, but then fine?

our winXP pro desktops have developed a very slow bootup, but this only
happens 1st thing every morning if the computer was powered off overnight.
(login takes around 7mins - and counting!) If we do not login immediately,
and wait about 10 mins then it logs in fine, so this would indicate that the
probelm would be down to the machine/gpo but not at the user level.

have enable the UserEnvDebugLevel and the logs show that the time delay is
mainly when this entry appears:
LibMain: Process Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe

Is there anything I can do to remedy this? or troubleshoot?

many thanks in advance!

Hi,

We appear to have the same issue with our XP clients. I also feel the issue
is not at a local level and think there might be a tweak required to the
Default Domain Policy?

Anybody any thoughts?

Do you have anti-virus on these workstations? My computer is noticeably
slow while it downloads virus updates. If they have been turned off, it
will almost certainly be time for them to check for a new update.
