Will microsoft works 8 work on windows vista home premium?
please can you let me know as i am ordering vista soon on a premium upgrade

If you can't get a definitive answer from Microsoft on their Works website,
my suggestion is to download the Vista trial when it comes out, install
Works, and see how it does. You can, if it works out ok, change the license
key to your full Ultimate version without having to re-install Vista.

ta dale but i cant do what you sugested and i cant get an answer from microsoft

I had some problems getting Works 8 to install. Don't remember what they
were and if they were related to being the 64-bit version or not. Seems I
got most of it working before I switched to the Office Beta. Have you tried
searching the newsgroup.

I just bought a new HP with VISTA Home Premium and Works 8.5 pre-loaded.
Works doesn't! Trying to work with either the spreadsheet or the database
causes Works to crash. HP says there is a compatibilty problem and Microsoft
will be doing a patch sometime. No ETA however.

Microsoft Works 8.5.815 is said to be compatible. See if this is what came
with your computer.

Nope. According to the "Aboyt Works" drop-down it is 8.5 When I go to the
Microsoft update site it tells me I have the most up-to-date version of
Works. I saw the reference to 8.0.815 in the list of programs that are said
to "work with Vista" but haven't found anywhere to get mine version upgraded.
Anyone know?

Sorry folks, not understanding format here. Was there ever a resolution for
getting Works 8 database and spreadsheet to work on Windows Vista system. I
don't have Works 8.5 as far as I can tell which seems to be the one addressed
elsewhere, and I wasn't having a printer issue as addressed elsewhere.
Program closed with an error when I was just trying to work with fields or
cells in the programs. It's pitiful being sold a new computer with software
on it that won't work together. Anyway, Microsoft is referring me to this
and websites, rather than giving me instructions. Any help will be
appreciated. Thanks.

What version DO you have?
In Works, Help>About
Once we have the actual number, maybe someone can figure it out.
I found that installing Office XP to a folder outside Program Files makes it
work.

I may need new glasses...LOL
I have found that many of my older programs, while not being truely 'Vista
Compatible' will function if I install them in a folder I create on my HDD
outside of the Windows standard Program Files folder.
Vista blocks almost everything from writing to the Program Files folder or
subfolders.
Many older programs stored their files in the same folder as the program and
Vista doesn't like that.
Even though it is from MS, I'll bet Works 8 is setup the same way.
