Working with Grahpic Objects

In Word 2007, I can't group a WordArt and a picture. Why?

I also want to understand the difference between the graphic object that has
hollow selection handles and the one has solid selection handles.

Thank you for your concern

The solid handles indicate that the graphic is In Line with Text (or treated
as a "character" in a text line), the hollow handles indicate that some form
of Text Wrapping has been applied (free-floating object in the graphics
layer).

In Line objects cannot be included in Grouping.
