Is it possibe to construct a E commerce site with frames? Any books or
tutorial to recommend? Thanks

Yes, it's possible. However, I can't help but be curious as to why you seem
to think that using Frames is a requirement for your app. Requirements are
based on business rules - what should the app do? What service(s) should it
perform? For example, you mentioned that you want to do an e-commerce site.
Now, THAT is a business requirement. The requirement is that you want to
sell merchandise over the Internet.

On the other hand, using Framesets is a solution, a tool, if you will, that
is in a set of potential web tools, and is useful in some cases for
fulfilling a business requirement that demands that sort of functionality.

So, I guess what I want to ask is, why do you seem to require frames?

Do not do this for a eCommerce site, as it will kill your sales.

I love designing web pages in frames; but, the search engines don't like me
when I use them. So, if web traffic is really, really important to your
website, then DON'T USE FRAMES.

Frames have no impact at all on your page rank. They may cause problems for
your visitors, however.

Nonsense
- Most SE can not effectively navigate frame and links (if they do) will be to pages outside of your frameset

Stefan:
Most SE can not effectively navigate frame and links

This is not true. SEs will see all content and every link on every page in
your framed site. Read the SE instructions to webmasters regarding frames
and see. There would be no reason why they could not see these ordinary
HTML links.
to pages outside of your frameset

Certainly, and that's one of the problems with using frames, but that has no
impact on your page ranking, it's only a serious inconvenience for your
site's visitors.

A blanket statement like this is not particularly helpful. Frames are a
tool, an HTML element. They exist for specific purposes, and are useful in
some situations. Frames have inherent problems, but problems by nature can
be solved.

While that is true, frames for ecommerce sites generally suck for a variety
of reasons.
