Hi there,

I have a small home network consisting of 3 systems. 2 of which are XP
Home systems and 1 is XP Pro. They all connect to the internet through the
same ADSL router.

My question is, is it possible for me to add a user onto the XP Pro
system from one of the XP Home systems?

I'll explain why, I am trying to develop web applications from one of
the XP Home systems, the application resides on the XP Pro system which is
runnung IIS web server. The only way I can currently successfully develop
is by sharing the project folder on the XP Pro system, but this compramises
security. I wish to have to log onto the XP Pro system from my XP Home
development system and be able to view and modify the web application to my
hearts desire.

So far I have tried to add a user on the XP Pro system but have only
failed. How can this be achieved? Can I simply add an account on the XP
Pro system that is exactly the same on my XP Home development system,
complete with Administration rights? I have tried adding an account with
the same username and password but I presume that isn't all that makes an
account? Thanks loads in advance.

BTW, I cannot install the VS.NET server components on the XP Pro system
as I only have VB.NET Standard. So that option is not available to me,
hence why I am trying to make an account to handle everything.

Nick.

Why not turn on remote desktop on the xp pro system and install the remote
desktop client on the xp home system. Then create an account to use on the
xp pro system and use remote desktop to log in to it. Then you can control
the xp pro station from the xp home station. There might be a bit of a slow
down but I use it all the time, it works great.

I don't think you completely understand what I was asking. I do not want to
remotely control the desktop, I want to have authorised access to the system
whilst developing ASP.NET applications. At the moment if I set IIS to use
authentication I get prompted with a login box, but putting in a correct
username and password does not work, I would idealy like my administration
account credentials on my XP Home system to work on the XP Pro system, this
way I should be able to have trouble free developing.

Desktop sharing would lock out the other user until I have finished, I do
not want to bodge this, I am doing this for security reasons and to increase
the security, remote desktop sharing could only lessen the security.

Hi again,

I have found a secuity policy that enables users logging on remotely to
log on as themselves rather than annonymous. This seems to have the trick.

I think I spoke to soon, it seems that the IIS permissions and the windows
permissions keep on conflicting with each other. I shall have to ask more
about this in the ASP newsgroup.
