hello,

My company's network runs on windows 2000 with a domain. The only exception
is our networked printer, which sits in a workgroup called "workgroup". A few
weeks ago Workgroup began to show up sporadically in the "Microsoft windows
network" area under "my network places". when it did not show up, I could
always hit "refresh" and it would appear.

A few weeks ago this connection began to get even more sluggish. but not for
everyone. for 90% of the users everything is fine, but for the remaining few
printing to the printer has become a hit-and-miss proposition as sometimes it
works and sometimes it doesn't.

I have absolutely no idea what is happening. Norton Antivirus is up to date.
I checked the physical connections and I shut-down and restarted the printer
service on the server. Beyond that I am pretty clueless.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would wonder why it is not in your domain and listed in AD. Also, does it
use a static IP?

Hi,

I don't think there is any particular reason for the printer being off by
itself. That's just the way the technician set it up. It does use a static
IP. if moving it to the domain would help, I will do it. I would ony have to
remap the printers on about 30 computers.
