Workgroup file sharing not working with wireless

I'm trying to access files on one of my networked
machines while wirelessly networked on my laptop.
Sometime during the copy (and the timing varies), an
error pops up saying something like.. "network name is no
longer valid". I've pulled out the wireless card and
networked with a cable just fine but going wireless seems
to mess everything up. I'm testing right next to the
base station so my signal is extremely strong.

The wireless works perfectly when surfing the web.

specifics:
I've set up a workgroup called MSHOME using the network
wizard on both machines. I chose the residential gateway
option on both. I have the folders set to shared..
changable by remote users. I have a Belkin wireless
router connected to a DSL modem and a Microsoft 802.11b
PCMCIA card. The laptop is a Compaq Presario 610C and
the PC I'm trying to copy from is a MicronPC of some
type.. it's old. It does the same thing when trying to
copy from laptop to PC.

I am having the exact same problem with almost the exact
same setup. The only thing different on my end is the
manufacturers of the equipment.

I've been looking into this and think the error has to do
with hostname resolution. Under my setup (you should
verify this) I can use the 'ping' or 'net view' commands
if I give the IP address, but not if I give the
\\hostname. Same thing if I go to Network Neighborhood
and try to 'explore' under hostname... it doesn't work.
However, if I open up a window and type \\xx.xxx.xx.x (IP
address) then everything is fine.

An interim solution I have found is to just put a
shortcut on my desktop with the IP address, and not the
host name. Seems slow, but it works. Both from my
desktop and from my wireless laptop.

I have heard that one cannot setup both computers under
the "Residential Gateway" setting. One has to
be "client" computer. This would mean that one of your
computers needs to be setup with wizard with ICS, and
setup the other as a client. It seems flawed that one
would have to do this with a router though. Very
confused by this.
