Workgroup/Domain

Jez

Hi all,

I had a task of transferring My Docs, Outlook settings etc from one
laptop to another. The laptop which held the docs had been part of
many domains but i wanted to switch to workgroup usage (and then back)
on a local LAN in a box for transfer to new laptop. After changing
domain to workgroup and then performing a reboot, I cannot now logon
using previous password for the user and do not have access to the
admin password. Any help would be appreciated to get any sort of logon
to at least get it back to how it was.

TIA

Your previous account if it was from the domain is not available to you
since you removed your machine form the domain.
The only remaining active password is the local administrator password.
This should have been set during the install of the system.
(It may also be blank if it was a preinstalled OS)

If you cannot find the local admin password then you will need to reset the
password using one of the expensive third party tools that claim to be able
to reset the admin password.

Also if any of your files were encrypted before you left the domain you will
not be able to access them - you will need to rejoin the domain and get the
domain admin to use the domain recovery agent to decrypt them or you could
use your old account if it has not been deleted.
