Workgroup and Network

Could someone explain to me, in plain English as I am a
new user, how a Win2K network with a domain controller,
can connect to a separate Win2K workgroup? We have a
vendor that is setting up 5 win2k workstations and has not
joined them to our domain, but still we have to have them
to be able to connect to programs on our network.

I'm confused as to how this will work.

Setup usernames and passwords on the domain which match those used by the
users on the workgroup computers. When they connect from their workgroup PC
to the domain they will pass their user credentials to the DC which will
match them with a valid username on the domain.

For further security put these accounts into a Global or Universal group on
the domain and restrict & grant access to resources as necessary.
