Wordpad opening all PDF files

Rencently installed Adobe Reader 6.0 in order to view PDf files with embedded links to class notes. Professor uses Adobe reader 6.0 to post class notes. There is a content page with links to the related notes. Everytime I open class home page to link to course schedule(content page) that has the links to notes, the content page opens in wordpad. Links are not accessable. If I download and save to desktop, the file only downloads in wordpad document.Links are not accessable. My HTML EDITOR is listed as Notepad. I've tried opening Adobe reader first and use open doc. in the adobe program. Will not work.
I've checked file associations and PDF files are listed to open With the Adobe Reader. What gives?
Can I change the HTML EDITOR to Adobe reader. How?
