Word2003 - template help text doesn't display on status bar

I created a template and added help text to a form field. I selected Status
Bar and clicked Type Your Own. After I typed the text I clicked OK. I saved
the document and when I went back to look, there is no help text displayed
on the status bar. I even tried it using the F1 help key, but it goes to
Word help.

Have you locked the form? When you tab into the form field, you don't see
the Help text?

And you're tabbing into the field, not just clicking in it?

It works for me even in a table. But you might check to make sure that you
have actually entered the Help text. I found the dialog a little confusing
in that you have to choose the radio button for "Type your own"; by default,
the setting is None: you can type text in the box and click OK, but it
doesn't "take." There's also another tab for Help provided by the F1 key (as
opposed to the status bar), but presumably that's not the issue here.

Yes, tried tabbing and clicking. Maybe it's because the field is in a table?
