word vs outlook printing

The same printer and PCL driver prints ok from word, but blank pages from
outlook.
I was wondering what are the diferences between these two Microsoft
applications, when it comes to printing ... how do they handle it ....

Thanks in advance!

I'm not a Windows guy, but I know those who are will need to know which
version of Word, Outlook, and Windows, as well as the printer in
question before they can give you a good answer.

I agree. We need to know more.

This much I do know: If you can print the way you want from Word,
consider yourself lucky. Many people can't even do that. Problems with
Outlook and Word are many and various. Microsoft chose to intertwine
HTML very deeply into the Windows operating system. This means that
security updates for Windows or Office often cause viewing and printing
problems in any Microsoft product. When Microsoft tightens security for
a security hole in HTML, it can often cripple other functions. I think
that's what you're experiencing when you try to print from Outlook (even
if you've chosen to use "Word as your eMail editor).

If I have to print an eMail from Outlook, I first save it into a
directory (folder) somewhere on my hard drive as an html file. Then, I
use one of the open source JAVA things to open it and print it, like,
FireFox or OpenOffice. I get better results that way. It's not perfect
all the time but most of the time it's an amazingly precise method for
printing the layout onto paper.

Microsoft claims to have addressed these problems in Office 2007 but I'm
not ready to plunk down the money to try it because I know most of what I
hear is marketing hyperbole anyway. In "googling" your probelm, I see
people are posting similar complaints about Office 2007.

So, upgrading Microsoft Office means, to me, the loss of hundreds of
dollars only to find there are still problems. Instead, I have used
OpenOffice.org for about a year and found it to be quite effective. I
have been so happy, I sent them $120 a couple of months ago. You don't
have to send them a penny. Just use it and see what you think. Or, just
use FireFox to open and print your eMail after you've saved it from
Outlook as an HTML file. FireFox won't force you to pay, either.

Anyway ... like I said ... if Microsoft Word is working to your liking,
please consider yourself a victorious winner in this arena.

Most people who try to print stuff from Microsoft Outlook experience
failures and the only workaround is to save the eMail as an HTML file.
Then they print in Microsoft Word. Sadly, Microsoft Word then
obliterates or truncates pictures, or text boxes, or other portions of
the HTML coded page.

So, when you try to print in Outlook, you're encountering the HTML
security problems, I think. When you print from Word, I'm presuming you
authored in Word and that's why it's working.

Wow. It's worse than I thought. Makes me glad I use Firefox,
Thunderbird, and OpenOffice in Linux these days.
