Word Toolbar Customization Problems

I am currently using office XP, and have used office 2003. I have not been
able to customize any of my toolbars, or save any defualts. I am a math
teacher and continuously use the subscript, superscript and Microsoft
Equation 3.0. I am able to drag them up to my toolbar, and they will stay as
long as I do not exit out of word. If I do exit out of word, then they
disappear, and I have to redo the whole process the next time I open up Word.
The same is true for saving default fonts and margins. I will click on yes,
saying that I want to change the normal document, but the changes will not
stick if I close out of Word. This has been true of both Office 2003 and
Office XP. I have tried completely uninstalling and re-installing Office. I
have also completely wiped the computer and re-installed everything. I need
HELP! What could cause this?

From the FAQ:

28. I can't save my customizations - AutoText, menus, etc.
Can't save normal.dot...
If you have Adobe Acrobat 7 installed see the last section of
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm.
Otherwise, hold down the Shift key when selecting the File
menu and select Save All.

PERFECT!!! All I had to do was take away the toolbar for Adobe! That is so
awesome! Thank you so much!!!!!

Acrobat-caused problems in Word for quite a while.
